Seeds of Hope

The Seeds of Hope small grants program is currently suspended. We hope to start up again soon, and will make that announcement via our mailing list (sign up here). Read more about the grant-making program here.

In three decades of grant-making, the Urban Foundation has awarded over two million dollars in “Seeds of Hope” grants to community- and faith-based organizations, and grassroots urban projects in urban Los Angeles.

  • Baldwin Park United Methodist Church 

    The goal for Brain Power is to empower first generation low-income youth to complete high school and go to college. Via after-school tutoring from students from Azusa Pacific University, Citrus College, Mt. Sac, and Cal Poly Pomona the youth are exposed to a college culture. Additionally, students and their families are also welcome to participate in other programs including the aerobics/zumba class, Fe, Comida y Arte program, and The Harmony Academy.

  • Peace Camp at United Universal Methodist Church 

    Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders was created to address the need for leadership opportunities for youth living in the near by neighborhoods of South Los Angeles. The creation of the internship program has prove to be very successful. Student-interns are able to work their way up to become teacher assistants and teachers for the program. The real power and leadership for the youth in the program comes from promoting youth from within their ranks.

  • We Lift LA  serves emancipated foster youth ages 18-25 years in the San Fernando Valley. Through mentorship, tutoring, GED or diploma completion, housing, financial planning and academic guidance students are bridging the gaps. Last year, 10 out of 20 youth in the program enrolled at a community college, two at a trade school, and two at a four year university.  These young adults are proving that with a little bit of help, love, and support anything is possible!
