My parents were immigrants from Asia and I am a first generation college graduate who recalls the challenges of an immigrant family navigating education and other government systems on the journey of achieving the American dream.   It is because of my background that I came to support Kid City and ever since, I have been a huge fan because this small nonprofit provides critical support to low income youth to help them achieve their educational goals and become young leaders who give back to their home communities.

Kid City is a lifeline for many youth and their families who depend upon it for direction and support where these resources are in short supply in the neighborhoods of South Los Angeles and DTLA.  The deep community support extends into the participants college years where many face financial, emotional and other challenges unique to first generation college students.

The COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted many of the Kid City families who are struggling on low wager worker salaries or who are faced with lost jobs, healthcare or housing.  Kid City is also challenged during these times where the need is greater yet resources are thinner.  This year we will not be able to hold our annual fundraising event where community support is recognized and important nonrestricted funds are raised.

Instead of gathering in person, we are conducting a virtual campaign.  Would you please consider donating to Kid City during this critical time?  Your donation could help provide a high school senior with assistance on college applications or the FAFSA application,  provide a college student away from home with counseling, or support one of our staff who are implementing a Food Bank program for our families.  Now more than ever, your support is needed and can make a big difference.  Thank you for considering.
